Anyway, after a LONG weekend and a win from the Dawgs, I decided to end it on the right note- by finishing my telenovela, Corazon Salvage. WOW is all I can say. It was so fun to watch, and I'll admit, I got a little attached. It's making me sad to know that it's over, but I'm divulging myself in blogs/wikipedia articles about the show and its cast.
I can definitely see how telenovelas work now- the drama, the storylines (love stories, more importantly) hook audiences in easier than you think. I was convinced I'd start watching for the sole purpose of this class, but it started becoming my entertainment. I'm not surprised in the slightest that telenovelas become such a big part of Latin American culture!
Here's a short synopsis of the characters of the show and an even short summary of what's actually going on in the show...
Juan- HUNK. Juan is an illegitimate child of a wealthy man. Has lived a dangerous life without truly knowing his background. Falls in love with Monica.
Monica- Initially who I thought to be a goody-two-shoes, but LOVE HER. She is the protagonist woman who is head-over-heels in love with Juan. They are for sure meant to be.
Andres- Juan's brother from the father that they share. Crazy jealous of Juan's good looks (not actually stated, but he should be jealous) and everything that Juan has that he doesn't. Has lived a wealthy life, but is sort of a pain and a mama's boy. Comes to his senses at the end.
Aimee- Monica's sister, Andres' wife.. until she dies. Flirtacious, crazy, had a thing with Juan before her sister married him. REALLY pretty (I thought she was going to be the protagonist at the beginning).
Sofia- Andres' mom, doesn't want to claim Juan as her stepson. Crazy woman that is left by herself in the end (because she deserves it). And by crazy, I mean crazy, mean, sort of a witch (to put it nicely) kind of lady.
Catalina- Monica & Aimee's mom, sort of a moocher, only wants her daughters to marry wealthy, concerned with socioecomic status way too much, finds God at the end.
Now that you know all of this, just realize Corazon Salvage is actually about Juan & Monica, their love for each other, and the obstacles (and crazy family members) that try and come in their way. DEFINITELY a "rosa" telenovela. Definitely worth watching. Definitely in love with Juan del Diablo.
That's all for now!
